"Why do I go to Jon's sessions?"

"They are fun. They are stress free. Jon - has a way of teaching that I don't feel I am are being told what to do. I am encouraged to make my own choices and then supported with the decisions I make. There is no wrong decision. Only learning opportunities. Jon always finds a way to make feedback constructive and positive to help me make my own evaluations about my performance and how I can improve. He is supportive while pushing you to always be better and reach maximum potential".

Why do we do a League Level session?

When we play - week in and week out - with the same systems, the same coach, and the same group of players, can develop a form of Neuro-lock where we play without thinking and play the same way. We become predictable and we stop imagining there are others ways. We get mentally lazy. We become Neuro-locked in playing one-way. Because we lack fluid intelligence we can only compete by lifting our intensity of playing the same way. Intense predictable play is predictable. And as Golden State showed in the NBA playoffs - predictable - no matter how intense - especially in tournaments and best of 7's - losses.

Why do we run League Level sessions? To show players that they could and should become fluidly intelligent, more flexible, and more multifaceted to find inner resources they had no idea they possessed.

I was just reading part of Pep Guardiola's book on coaching. He is the amazing coach of Manchester City football team. I know it's football but the points he makes are relevant to Basketball as well.

I don’t read these books from start to finish - I open random pages and read.   I opened a section on Adapting and Learning.

"Continuing one’s education is the only antidote to old age" - Howard Gardner

Hungarian psychiatrist Thomas Szasz explains that each moment of conscious learning requires the willingness to damage the self-esteem.

In Munich, they still believed football is about maintaining high possession. Rubbish! It’s a game of position, not possession. It’s about how you place yourself in relation to others on the field.

Players quickly realised it wasn’t about holding onto the ball it was about being aware of the position of everyone.

"99% of statistics only tell 49% of the story" - Ron DeLegge II

Love this quote - it highlights how we often don't see all of what the best players do. They don't just practice the same thing over and over again. They don't just put up 200 shots a day.

They also have fluid intelligence.

If you are a league-level player and this still doesn't make sense

Watch this.

It's a video from ThinkingBasketball

It's on Golden State Warrior's defense.

It's all about what players with fluid intelligence can do in defence.
