About the event

We play to make meaningful connections to find a way of playing we can’t yet see. It's about seeing the bigger picture. It’s seeing the forest to find a way we can’t yet see through the trees. It's finding a way of playing when our mechanical and technical skills are not enough.

This is the forgotten 3rd skill because many of us spend most of our time learning - and being measured - by standardized,  mechanical, and technical skills. When climbing a tree we don’t think about the forest. Only learning to execute mechanical and technical skills narrows our view. We stop seeing the 3rd skill.   We have solved this in St Albans and surrounding areas - by creating a  community club where everyone can play to develop the 3rd skill - across multiple sports and other activities. To play to make meaningful connections to find ways of playing - we can’t yet see. When our mechanical and technical skills are not enough we need to find another way - even if - especially if - we can’t yet see it. That is the  3rd skill.

When players have the 3rd skill we get teams like Manchester City, Denver Nuggets, and the New Zealand rugby union team. We get athletes like Roger Federer, Lionel Messi, Richie McCaw,  and Stephen Curry. They always seem to be able to find a way that nobody else can see. It's a handy skill to have.

What the players say

"They are fun. They are stress free. Jon - has a way of teaching that I don't feel I am are being told what to do. I am encouraged to make my own choices and then supported with the decisions I make. There is no wrong decision. Only learning opportunities. Jon always finds a way to make feedback constructive and positive to help me make my own evaluations about my performance and how I can improve. He is supportive while pushing you to always be better and reach maximum potential".
